Summer Giving Campaign
Now more than ever, families in our community are struggling to find an affordable place to call home. With the median home sale price in Palm Beach County at $585,000*, the dream of homeownership is out of reach for many of our neighbors. At Habitat for Humanity, we believe that everyone deserves a safe and decent place to live, and it is with this belief that we work tirelessly to remove barriers to entry, build homes people can afford, and communities where families can thrive. But our work is only possible with the generosity of supporters like you. Your support is critical to the success of families like the one I am about to tell you about.
Meet Melissa
Melissa is an Army veteran and mother to three sons and a dog named Koda. After serving her country, Melissa transitioned into a career at PNC Bank as a Senior Analyst. Even with a stellar background, reliable job and a steady income, her long search for a new home in South Florida came to no avail.
“I kept getting out-bid,” says Melissa, “houses were going because people would pay cash and no one would even look at my offer.” Prior to qualifying for the Habitat Homeownership Program, Melissa believed she would have to move out of state and away from family to afford a home.
Everything changed in August of 2022, when Melissa and her sons were surprised with the news that she had been selected as Habitat’s Veteran Build homeowner and would soon be eligible to purchase a 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom home in Lake Worth Beach. Since then, Melissa and her sons have contributed more than 370 partnership hours working on her future home and the homes of other Habitat families. Melissa has also been completing financial literacy courses and saving money for escrow. This June, she will be purchasing her Habitat Home!
Becoming a Habitat Homeowner is like a dream come true. The biggest part of this is I can have my family come over. I can now have family gatherings. I don’t have to worry about moving.
This is just one story of a family you impacted… but there are many more still waiting for the opportunity to build a better life.
Please GIVE TODAY to make affordable homeownership a possibility for more families and veterans in our community like Melissa.
