Seeing the Work Made Kesley Believe in the Mission
Q&A with Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County staff member Kesley Mesalien, Homeowner Services Engagement Manager
How long have you been at Habitat?
6 years.
What brought you to Habitat?
As an undergrad at Florida Atlantic University, I was looking to gain some experience in the social services/social work field. Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach offered me the opportunity as an intern.
What makes you stay?
Helping others is my passion, and Habitat gave me the opportunity to do that. Seeing the work Habitat is doing in the community makes me believe in the mission. Being able to assist many families in becoming homeowners is a rewarding part of my job.
“Seeing the work Habitat is doing in the community makes me believe in the mission.”
What does HOME mean to you?
A home means a stable foundation. A future filled with hope, stability, peace and wealth.
What is your favorite or most memorable moment during your tenure at Habitat?
One of my favorite memories is when the families get the keys to their houses during the dedication ceremony. Seeing the joy and the big smiles on the children’s faces is priceless. I enjoy seeing how our organization impacts and improves the lives of our families.
“The joy and the big smiles on the children’s faces are priceless.”
A fun fact about you:
Growing up, I dreamed of starting my own non-profit in Haiti and giving back to the community where I grew up. Currently, I have a non-profit organization called Bright Stars Sports Academy, which helps young children develop their talents through sports and education so that they can reach their full potential as athletes, scholars and future leaders.
