Habitat is a wonderful way to ‘pay it forward!,’ says Habitat SPBC volunteer Micki Drazen. Former interior designer Micki Drazen retired to Florida 9 years ago. Originally from Ohio, she moved to New York City before settling in Connecticut, raising her family and running her own interior design business. Micki has volunteered at Habitat for 5 years and has participated in all of the Women Builds. “The people involved with Habitat are kind and giving, as well as love their jobs… which is unique and gratifying to see. As a volunteer, I am happy to be part of an organization that helps local people all over the country earn a home.” |
Local Projects
After retiring to Florida and with time to devote to volunteering in the community, Micki was attracted to Habitat for Humanity by its reputation for helping people. She saw the opportunity to participate in local projects that actually come to fruition.
Micki volunteers in the Habitat SPBC office, answering the phone and doing any job that arises. She enjoys participating in special events, including at neighborhood re-habs!
Women Builds
“My favorite memories of volunteering at Habitat are the Women Builds,” says Micki. “The day the current house is completed and the family is handed their key is so wonderful! I have witnessed the celebration and ceremony several times, and the joy is overwhelming!”
A proud grandmother to a 16 and a 20-year-old grandson, Micki is a valued member of the Habitat family. In addition to volunteering at Habitat, Micki enjoys swimming.
